FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

POSSA Dignity™ is a community-owned financial protection program that helps families receive financial support when an enrolled Covered Person passes away. The program is built on the principle of shared responsibility. Instead of paying monthly premiums, participants contribute just $1 when an approved death event occurs, helping families maintain dignity and financial stability during one of life's most difficult moments.

No. POSSA Dignity™ is not life insurance, burial insurance, funeral insurance, or any other insurance product. No insurance policy is issued and no insurance premiums are charged.

Participation is available to POSSA Members and eligible Covered Persons enrolled by a Member. Covered Persons may include:
  • The Member
  • One Spouse
  • Up to five Children
  • Additional Relatives such as parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, in-laws, and other approved individuals

Yes. POSSA Dignity™ allows Members to enroll eligible relatives regardless of where they live. Parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, in-laws, and other approved relatives may be enrolled as Additional Relatives, provided all enrollment and verification requirements are met.

No. The Dignity Amount is based on the Covered Person's category, Dignity Points, Benefit Threshold progress, and eligibility status. It is not based on where the Covered Person lives, where the beneficiary lives, or where the death occurs.

Annual Fees:
  • Member Coverage: Included with POSSA Membership
  • Family Plan (Spouse and up to five minor Children): $200 per year
  • Additional Relative: $100 per year per person

No. Ever. POSSA Dignity™ does not charge monthly premiums.

When an approved death event occurs, a contribution of $1 is assessed for each participating Covered Person enrolled under a Member's account. These contributions help support the family of the deceased Covered Person.

The Dignity Wallet is an account maintained by POSSA to fund death-event contributions and other program obligations. Members are required to maintain a minimum wallet balance to ensure contributions can be paid when death events occur.

Yes. Every Covered Person is subject to a six-month waiting period after enrollment. No benefit is payable during the waiting period, and no Dignity Credits are earned during this period.

Once the waiting period is successfully completed and all program requirements have been met, the Covered Person begins accumulating POSSA Dignity Credits (PDC), which contribute to their Dignity Points and future Dignity Amount.

Dignity Points represent a Covered Person's participation history in POSSA Dignity™. The number of Dignity Points accumulated helps determine the Dignity Amount payable upon the death of the Covered Person.

The Benefit Threshold is 50 Dignity Points. When a Covered Person reaches the Benefit Threshold, they qualify for the full Benefit Threshold Value applicable to their category.

Once the Benefit Threshold is reached:
Covered Person Benefit Threshold Value
Member $30,000
Spouse $20,000
Child $15,000
Additional Relative $10,000

Yes. Covered Persons who have not yet reached the Benefit Threshold may still qualify for a proportional Dignity Amount based on the Dignity Points accumulated at the time of death.

After reaching the Benefit Threshold, a Covered Person earns an additional $5,000 in Dignity Amount for every five consecutive years of participation. This bonus continues until the maximum Dignity Amount for that category is reached.

Depending on the Covered Person category and participation history, families may receive:
Covered Person Maximum Dignity Amount
Member Up to $50,000
Spouse Up to $30,000
Child Up to $20,000
Additional Relative Up to $15,000

The Dignity Amount is paid to the beneficiary or beneficiaries designated by the Covered Person. If no valid beneficiary exists, POSSA may pay the estate or another legally entitled recipient.

A death may be reported by:
  • A Member
  • A Beneficiary
  • A Trusted Representative
  • A Family Member
  • A Legal Representative
  • Another person acceptable to POSSA
The death should be reported as soon as possible so verification and claim processing can begin.

POSSA verifies every reported death before activating a death event. Verification may include review of:
  • Death certificates
  • Burial permits
  • Funeral home records
  • Government records
  • Court records
  • Other supporting documentation
POSSA may also conduct additional investigations whenever necessary to protect the integrity of the program.

POSSA uses a multi-layer verification process designed to accommodate deaths occurring anywhere in the world. Verification may include:
  • Reports from Members, Trusted Representatives, and family members
  • Official records from local authorities
  • Death certificates and burial records
  • Funeral home documentation
  • Government-issued records
  • Independent review by POSSA administrators
POSSA also employs automated fraud-detection safeguards and risk-monitoring systems that may trigger additional review when unusual circumstances or inconsistencies are identified. Most death events are expected to be verified quickly, while cases requiring additional investigation may take longer.

POSSA's goal is to process approved claims as quickly as 24 hours after claim approval. The timeline depends on:
  • How quickly the death is reported
  • How quickly required documents are submitted
  • Completion of death verification
  • Completion of beneficiary verification
  • Establishment of an approved payment method
Once all required verifications are completed and the claim is approved, payment is generally expected within hours, not months. Claims are processed in the order they become eligible for payment.

Benefits may be paid through:
  • Electronic funds transfer (ACH)
  • Check
  • Digital payment platforms
  • Deposit into an approved financial account
  • Other methods approved by POSSA

Enrollment is completed through the POSSA platform at shield.possa.com/join. Referral is required to join POSSA. If you do not have a referral code or link, once on the enrollment page, check the box: "I need a Referrer" and POSSA will see if they can find a member to refer you. Members can:
  • Enroll themselves
  • Add a spouse
  • Add eligible children
  • Add eligible relatives
  • Designate beneficiaries
  • Designate trusted representatives
  • Select payment methods
  • Complete required verification
Enrollment becomes effective once all required information has been submitted and approved.

POSSA maintains electronic records and account histories for all participants.

No. POSSA Dignity™ is administered through a dedicated digital platform that manages enrollment, participation tracking, Dignity Points, death-event reporting, beneficiary management, claim processing, communications, and payment administration. While important verification and approval decisions are reviewed by authorized POSSA administrators, participants benefit from a modern technology platform designed to provide transparency, accountability, security, and efficiency.

Transparency is one of the core principles of POSSA. Participants can track their participation history, Dignity Points, account status, contribution history, and Covered Persons through the POSSA platform. POSSA maintains electronic records and administrative controls designed to ensure fairness, accountability, and program integrity.

POSSA Dignity™ is owned, administered, and operated by POSSA. It is one of the foundational programs within the broader POSSA Financial Ecosystem, which is designed to strengthen financial resilience, preserve family wealth, expand economic opportunity, and create community-owned financial solutions for the African Diaspora.

Yes. POSSA's long-term mission is to build the African Diaspora Bank and operates according to the principle of common ownership.

Because every year of participation matters. The earlier a Covered Person enrolls:
  • The sooner the waiting period is completed
  • The sooner Dignity Points begin accumulating
  • The sooner the Benefit Threshold can be reached
  • The sooner Post-Threshold Bonuses can begin accumulating
  • The greater the potential Dignity Amount available to their loved ones
Most importantly, enrollment today means building protection before it is ever needed.

Because it combines:
  • No monthly premiums
  • Coverage for relatives anywhere in the world
  • Community ownership
  • Modern technology and transparency
  • Benefits that grow over time
  • Survivor Continuation Protection
  • Just $1 per approved death event
  • Up to $50,000 for a Member's family
  • Participation in POSSA's long-term vision of building a community-owned financial institution
POSSA Dignity™ is more than a benefit program or a Bereavement Relief Fund. It is a community working together to protect families today while building a stronger financial future for generations to come.
